Asta este, cred, ra\u0163iunea noastr\u0103 de a fi.\u201d<\/em> (Roger Martin du Gard, <em>Familia Thibault<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u00cen 1913, scriitorul Andr\u00e9 Gide \u00eei scria editorului Gaston Gallimard, la lectura manuscrisului deja refuzat de o alt\u0103 editur\u0103 al romanului <em>Jean Barois<\/em>: \u201eCine e acest Martin du Gard, despre care nu mi-ai vorbit niciodat\u0103? E cu putin\u021b\u0103 ca dintru-\u00eenceput s\u0103 dai o oper\u0103 at\u00e2t de \u00een\u021beleapt\u0103, at\u00e2t de coapt\u0103, at\u00e2t de priceput l\u0103murit\u0103? Nu-i pot aduce <em>nicio critic\u0103<\/em>&#8230; \u0219i aprob f\u0103r\u0103 rezerv\u0103. Cel care a scris asta poate nu e un artist, dar are <em>stof\u0103<\/em>!\u201d<a id=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"#_ftn1\">[1]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acest Martin du Gard este acela\u0219i romancier, nuvelist \u0219i dramaturg francez, distins mai t\u00e2rziu, \u00een 1937, cu Premiul Nobel pentru for\u021ba \u0219i adev\u0103rul artistic din romanul <em>Familia Thibault<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Acel moment a fost decisiv pentru cristalizarea prieteniei dintre cei doi scriitori, care va dura aproape patru decenii \u0219i care va fi reflectat\u0103 \u00een coresponden\u021ba lor. Despre Premiul Nobel, Martin du Gard \u00eei scria lui Gide: \u201eDumneata ar fi trebuit s\u0103 ai acest premiu, drag\u0103 prietene. \u00cemi tot spun asta, f\u0103r\u0103 s\u0103-mi pot reveni din uimire.\u201d<a id=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"#_ftn2\">[2]<\/a> \u00cens\u0103 Gide \u00eel va primi \u0219i el, zece ani mai t\u00e2rziu. \u201e\u00cencerc o mare bucurie, drag\u0103 mare prietene, la g\u00e2ndul c\u0103 am\u00e2ndoi am fost ale\u0219ii acestui rar privilegiu! (E ca o simbolizare, la scar\u0103 mondial\u0103, a excep\u021bionalei noastre \u00een\u021belegeri, a unei afec\u021biuni care de treizeci de ani n-a f\u0103cut dec\u00e2t s\u0103 creasc\u0103. M\u0103 simt tare stingherit de-a fi fost primul dintre noi care s\u0103 primeasc\u0103 aceast\u0103 consacrare, dar nu e vina mea&#8230;[&#8230;])\u201d<a id=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"#_ftn3\">[3]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Chiar \u0219i numai r\u0103sfoind volumul ce reune\u0219te o parte dintre scrisorile lor, cititorul intr\u0103, ca \u00eentr-un jurnal intim, \u00eentr-o lume nedezv\u0103luit\u0103 a celor doi scriitori, din ale c\u0103ror critici sincere transpare rolul formator al acestei prietenii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Cine este acest Martin du Gard? \u0218tim sau vom descoperi. \u00cens\u0103 nu ar fi fost cel pe care \u00eel \u0219tim sau \u00eel descoperim f\u0103r\u0103 miracolul acestei \u00eent\u00e2lniri. La fel cum Gide nu ar fi fost acela\u0219i.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aceast\u0103 metamorfoz\u0103 o m\u0103rturisea Martin du Gard \u00een jurnalul s\u0103u: \u201ePrietenia excep\u021bional\u0103 a lui Gide m\u0103 face s\u0103 urc noi trepte, s\u0103 tr\u0103iesc \u00eentr-o familiaritate zilnic\u0103 al\u0103turi de unul din cele mai luminoase spirite ale vremii noastre \u0219i care d\u0103 viziunii mele asupra lucrurilor o claritate ce n-o avea.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn4\" id=\"_ftnref4\">[4]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Aprecierea este reciproc\u0103, Gide not\u00e2nd la r\u00e2ndul s\u0103u \u00een jurnal: \u201eMartin du Gard \u00eentruchipeaz\u0103 dup\u0103 p\u0103rerea mea una din cele mai \u00eenalte \u0219i mai alese imagini ale ambi\u021biei: aceea pe care o \u00eenso\u021be\u0219te un efort constant spre perfec\u021bionarea personal\u0103, ca \u0219i dorin\u021ba de-a ob\u021bine, de-a cere de la tine \u00eensu\u021bi c\u00e2t mai mult cu putin\u021b\u0103.\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn5\" id=\"_ftnref5\">[5]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Precum se \u00eent\u00e2mpl\u0103 uneori, realitatea trece \u00een opera de fic\u021biune. \u00cen romanul <em>Familia Thibault<\/em>, Daniel de Fontanin i se confeseaz\u0103 \u00eentr-o scrisoare prietenului s\u0103u, Jacques Thibault, recunosc\u00e2nd puterea formatoare a prieteniei: ,,Eu am contribuit la formarea sufletului t\u0103u, a\u015fa cum \u015fi tu ai contribuit la formarea sufletului meu!\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn6\" id=\"_ftnref6\">[6]<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Familia Thibault<\/em> \u0219i <em>Jean Barois<\/em>, \u201eromanele care i-au adus celebritatea [&#8230;] proiecteaz\u0103 \u00eentr-o lumin\u0103 intens\u0103 problemele acute de familie, sociale, morale, ideologice de la sf\u00e2r\u0219itul secolului al XIX-lea \u0219i \u00eenceputul secolului XX\u201d<a href=\"#_ftn7\" id=\"_ftnref7\">[7]<\/a>.
